Mandatory Compliance for Input Materials of Steel and Steel Products for Imports

Subject: Mandatory Compliance with Indian Standards for Input Materials of Steel and Steel Products Intended for Import – Reg.

The Ministry of Steel has issued this directive to ensure strict adherence to Indian Standards for input materials used in the manufacturing of steel and steel products covered under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, notified via S.O. 3716(E) dated 29.08.2024.

  1. Currently, 151 Indian Standards have been notified under the QCO, covering steel and steel products falling under Chapter 72 and 73 of ITC(HS) codes.

  2. In line with the above, it is hereby mandated that input materials, which are also covered under these notified Indian Standards, must comply with the respective standards as mapped (list enclosed).

  3. This directive shall be applicable to all imports with a Bill of Lading dated on or after 13th June 2025.

  4. Importers are further advised to ensure mandatory registration on the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) portal, wherever applicable.

This order is issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
