Dear Reader, Here is an important update for all existing BIS licence holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024.

BIS QCO for Polycarbonate – Overview
The Government of India has issued the Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024 under the BIS Act, 2016. According to this notification, all goods and articles made from Polycarbonate must comply with Indian Standard IS 14434:1998.
From the date this Order becomes effective, every Polycarbonate product covered under this category must:
- Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS licence issued as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
- Meet all requirements specified under the relevant Indian Standard.
Products manufactured only for export are exempted from this Quality Control Order, provided they meet the requirements of the importing country.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been officially appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order. Any violation or non-compliance will lead to penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- Non-compliance with this QCO may result in strict penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
- All stakeholders are advised to complete certification and licensing well before the implementation date.
