Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Wrought Copper Tubes for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Purposes.
Amendment to Copper Products (Quality Control) Order
TheMinistry of Commerce and Industry(Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has issued theCopper Products (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025on19th February 2025, modifying the provisions of the earlierCopper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024dated 25th April 2024. This amendment offers limited-time relief for certain imports related to the manufacturing sector.

- Product Covered:Wrought Copper Tubes for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning PurposesComply with Indian standard IS 10773:1995
- Standard Compliance: Must conform to the relevant Indian Standard and bear theBIS Standard MarkunderScheme-Iof the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018.
Implementation Timeline (as per 2024 Order):
- Medium & Large Enterprises: 19th October 2024
- Small Enterprises: 19th January 2025
- Micro Enterprises: 19th April 2025
Amendment Update (2025 Order):
- Goods imported by a manufacturer for the purpose of making equipment, products, sub-assemblies, or components in India
- Applicableonly to Wrought Copper Tubes for Refrigeration and AC purposesComply with Indian standard IS10773:1995
- Importlimit: Value not exceeding25%of the manufacturer’s total copper tube imports inFY 2023–24
Other Provisions:
- Exemption continues forexports
- BISremains the certifying and enforcement authority
- Non-compliance is punishable under theBIS Act, 2016
This amendment provides short-term flexibility for manufacturers sourcing copper tubes, aimed at supporting ongoing production cycles without compromising long-term quality compliance. The Copper Product (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, aims to enhance product quality, safety, and standardization while allowing for transitional flexibility for manufacturers, importers, and Micro and Small Enterprises (MSMEs). By understanding these changes, businesses can stay compliant, avoid penalties, and continue to operate smoothly.
Penalties for Non-Compliance:Any person or entity that violates this order will be subject to penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
