The Ministry of Commerce and
Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) issued the Copper
Product (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025 on 19th February 2025.
This order is aimed at ensuring that wrought copper tubes for refrigeration
and air conditioning purposes meet the required Indian quality standards.

What is This Amendment About?
This order mandates that wrought copper tubes for refrigeration and air conditioning purposes must comply with the Indian Standard IS 10773:1995 and carry the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). However, certain exemptions and transitional provisions have been provided.
Key Highlights of the Amendment
1. 1.Mandatory BIS Certification: All wrought copper tubes for refrigeration and air conditioning purposes must conform to IS 10773:1995. These products must bear the Standard Mark under a license from BIS.
Large-scale enterprises:
Compliance is required by October 19, 2024.
Small enterprises:
Compliance required sby January 19, 2025.
Micro enterprises:
Compliance required by April 19, 2025.
5. Certification & Enforcement Authority: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance for wrought copper tubes for refrigeration and air conditioning purposes.
6. Penalties for Non-Compliance: Any person or entity that violates this order will be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
