Overview of the BIS QCO for Vinyl Sulphone

The Government of India has notified the Vinyl Sulphone (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the BIS Act, 2016. As per this Order, all Vinyl Sulphone products sold in India must strictly comply with Indian Standard IS 18340:2023.

Once the Order comes into force, the following requirements will be mandatory:

• All Vinyl Sulphone products must meet the specifications of IS 18340:2023.
• Products must carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license, issued according to Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• Only BIS-certified manufacturers are permitted to manufacture and test these products.

Products manufactured solely for export are exempted from this requirement, as long as they follow the standards specified by the importer or foreign buyer.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the appointed certifying and enforcing authority for this QCO. All stakeholders must ensure full compliance by the implementation date. Any violation may attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Further, any future amendments or updates to IS 18340:2023 by BIS will automatically apply to this QCO from their date of publication.
