BIS QCO for Steel Rivet Bars (Medium and High Tensile – For Structural Purposes)

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.

This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 QCO and became effective from 29th August 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work already started under the earlier Order will remain valid.

This notification applies toSteel Rivet Bars (Medium and High Tensile – For Structural Purposes), which must now follow theIndian Standard IS 1148:2009. From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:

• Carry theStandard Mark (ISI Mark)under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018

• Be supplied with aTest Certificateissued by a BIS-certified manufacturer

Products manufactured only forexportare exempted from this requirement, provided they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as thecertifying and enforcing authorityfor this Order.

Non-compliance with this Order will lead to penalties underSection 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future revision or amendment made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
