Here is an important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Steel and Steel Products (Stainless Steel Sheets and Strips for Utensils – Specification) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

About this QCO
The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.
This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 QCO and came into effect from 5th February 2024, the day it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work that started under the old 2020 Order will still remain valid.
Key Requirements
This QCO applies to Stainless Steel Sheets and Strips for Utensils (IS 5522:2014). From the date of implementation, every product in this category must:
Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer
Products made only for export are exempted from this rule if they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.
Compliance & Penalties
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.
Not following this Order is punishable under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
If BIS makes any future changes or amendments to this Indian Standard (IS 5522:2014), they will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
