BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip – Specification)

About the Order

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the powers given by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.

This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 QCO and became effective from 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette.
Any work already started under the previous Order will still remain valid.

Key Points to Follow

This notification applies to Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip – Specification, and from the date of implementation, every product under this category must:

• Follow the Indian Standard IS 6911:2017

• Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018

• Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer

🔹 Products made only for export are exempted from this requirement if they follow the specifications required by foreign buyers.

Legal & Compliance

• The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.

• Non-compliance with this Order will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

• Any future changes or amendments made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of their publication.
