Important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Steel and Steel Products (Stainless Steel Bars and Flats) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Stainless Steel Bars and Flats)
Overview of the Order
The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.
This new Order replaces the earlier Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and became effective from 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work already started under the previous Order will remain valid.
Key Requirements
This notification applies to Stainless Steel Bars and Flats, which must now follow the Indian Standard IS 6603:2001.
From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:
Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer
Products manufactured only for export purposes are exempted from this requirement, provided they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.
Enforcement
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.
Non-compliance with this Order will lead to penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Any future revisions or amendments made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
