Here is an important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Steel and Steel Products (Steel for Valves for Internal Combustion Engines) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Specification for Steel for valves for Internal Combustion Engines)

The Ministry of Steel has issued this Quality Control Order under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. This Order replaces the earlier Steel and Steel Products QCO, 2020 and has been effective since 5th February 2024, the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Any work already done under the previous Order will remain valid.

This QCO applies to Steel for Valves for Internal Combustion Engines, which must now comply with Indian Standard IS 7494:1981. From the implementation date, every product under this category must:

  • Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license, as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018

  • Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer

Products made only for export are exempted, provided they meet the required foreign buyer specifications.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the designated authority for certification and enforcement of this Order.

Non-compliance with this Order will result in penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future amendments or revisions to the Indian Standard made by BIS will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
