Here is an important update for all existing BIS license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Steel and Steel Products (Hot Dip Aluminium–Zinc Alloy Metallic Coated Steel Strip and Sheet (Plain)) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Hot Dip Aluminium–Zinc Alloy Metallic Coated Steel Strip and Sheet (Plain))
The Ministry of Steel has issued this Quality Control Order (QCO) under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.
This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 Order and has become effective from 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work already started under the previous Order will still be valid.
This notification applies to Hot Dip Aluminium–Zinc Alloy Metallic Coated Steel Strip and Sheet (Plain), which must now strictly follow the Indian Standard IS 15961:2012.
From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:
Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.
Products made only for export are exempted from this requirement, as long as they follow the specifications required by foreign buyers.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.
Not following this Order can lead to penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Any future changes or updates in this Indian Standard by BIS will automatically apply to this Order from the date they are published.
