BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (High Carbon Steel Wire Rods – Specification)

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.
This new Order replaces the previous 2020 QCO and has come into effect from 5th February 2024, the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. All ongoing matters started under the old Order will still remain valid.

This QCO applies to High Carbon Steel Wire Rods, which must now comply with Indian Standard IS 7904:2018. From the implementation date, every product under this category must:

  • Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
  • Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Products manufactured only for export are exempted, as long as they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the authority to certify and enforce compliance with this Order. Non-compliance will lead to penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future revision or amendment made by BIS to this Indian Standard will also automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
