Dear Viewer,
Important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Steel and Steel Products (Fire Resistant Steel – Specification) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Fire Resistant Steel – Specification)
The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.
This new Order replaces the previous 2020 QCO and has been effective since 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette.
Any work already started under the earlier Order will still remain valid.
This notification applies to Fire Resistant Steel – Specification, which must now follow the Indian Standard IS 15103:2002. From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:
Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018
Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer
Products that are made only for export are exempted from this requirement, as long as they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.
Non-compliance with this Order will result in penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Any future revision or amendment made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
