BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Continuously pre-painted galvanized steel sheets and coils)

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.

This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 Order and became effective from 5th February 2024, the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Any matters already started under the earlier Order will remain valid.

This notification applies specifically to Continuously Pre-painted Galvanized Steel Sheets and Coils, which must now conform to Indian Standard IS 14246:2013.

From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:

• Bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Products manufactured only for export are exempted, provided they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the authority to certify and enforce compliance with this Order.
Non-compliance will lead to penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any revision or amendment made by BIS to this Indian Standard will also automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
