BIS QCO for the Steel and Steel Products (Hot-rolled mild steel sheet and strip in coil form for cold-reduced tinplate and cold-reduced black plate)

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. This Order replaces the earlier 2020 QCO and came into effect from 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work done under the earlier Order remains valid.

This notification applies to Hot-rolled mild steel sheet and strip in coil form for cold-reduced tinplate and cold-reduced black plate. From the implementation date, every product under this category must:

• Follow Indian Standard IS 2385:1977

• Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018

• Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer

Products manufactured only for export are exempted from this requirement, provided they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.

Non-compliance with this Order will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future amendments or revisions made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
