BIS QCO for Cold Rolled Steel Strips (Box Strappings) – IS 5872:1990

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the powers given by Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the earlier Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and is effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

This notification applies to Cold Rolled Steel Strips (Box Strappings), which must conform to Indian Standard IS 5872:1990 from the date of implementation. All products in this category must carry the ISI Standard Mark under a valid BIS license, granted as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Each batch of products must also be accompanied by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Products manufactured exclusively for export purposes are exempted from this Order, provided they meet the requirements of foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the designated certifying and enforcement authority for this Order. Non-compliance will invite penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future revisions or amendments to IS 5872:1990 by BIS will automatically be applicable to this Order from the date of publication.
