BIS QCO for Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels Used at Moderate and Low Temperature IS 2041:2009

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the provisions of Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order supersedes the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and comes into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, without affecting actions already taken under the earlier order.

As per the notification, Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels Used at Moderate and Low Temperature must conform to Indian Standard IS 2041:2009. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license and mark their products with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Each consignment must also be supported by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

An exemption is provided for steel products manufactured exclusively for export, where foreign buyers mandate compliance with alternative specifications. The Bureau of Indian Standards is the designated body for certification and enforcement of this Order, while any contravention attracts penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

In addition, any amendments or revisions to the relevant Indian Standard issued by BIS will be deemed applicable to this Order from the date of their publication.
