(Quality Control) Order, 2024

BIS QCO for Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels for Intermediate and High Temperature Service IS 2002:2009

The Ministry of Steel has notified the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 , in exercise of the powers conferred under Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and takes effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, except for matters already finalized under the previous order.

The notification makes it mandatory for Steel Plates for Pressure Vessels for Intermediate and High Temperature Service, including Boilers to comply with the requirements of Indian Standard IS 2002:2009. Manufacturers must obtain a valid BIS license and ensure that every product carries the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. In addition, each consignment is required to be supported by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

An exemption has been provided for domestically manufactured steel products that are produced solely for export and conform to alternative specifications required by foreign buyers. The Bureau of Indian Standards is the designated authority responsible for certification and enforcement, while any violation of the provisions of this Order will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Further, any future amendments or revisions to the relevant Indian Standard issued by BIS will automatically apply to this Order from the date of their publication.
