Hinges QCO Implementation
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) has notified the Hinges (Quality Control) Order, 2025 on 24th March 2025, replacing the previous QCO issued in July 2024. This regulation mandates that Steel back flap hinges meet specific quality standards, aimed at enhancing product durability, safety, and adherence to Indian Standards.

● Exemptions:
○ Goods manufactured for export.
○ Up to 200 units per year imported for R&D purposes by hinge manufacturers, provided these are not sold commercially and are scrapped after use. Detailed records must be maintained and submitted to the government when requested.
Enforcement Authority:
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will oversee certification and enforcement.
This move ensures quality control while offering flexibility to manufacturers for smoother compliance and innovation through R&D allowances.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with the Hinges (Quality Control) Order, 2024, will result in penalties as specified under the BIS Act, 2016. This enforcement mechanism aims to deter non-compliance and safeguard product quality in the marketplace.
