BIS QCO for Steel and Steel Products (Mild Steel Wire Rod for Machine Screws)

TheMinistry of Steelhas issued theSteel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.

This new Orderreplaces the earlier 2020 QCOand became effective from 29th August2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work already started under the earlier Order will remain valid.

This notification applies toMild Steel Wire Rod used for the manufacture of machine screws by cold heading process, which must now follow theIndian Standard IS 2255:1977.

From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:

• Carry theStandard Mark (ISI Mark)under a valid BIS license as perScheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018

• Be supplied with aTest Certificateissued by a BIS-certified manufacturer

⚠️Exemption:Products made only forexport purposesare exempted if they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

TheBureau of Indian Standards (BIS)has been appointed as thecertifying and enforcing authorityfor this Order.

👉 Non-compliance with this Order will attract penalties underSection 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any futurerevisions or amendmentsmade by BIS to this Indian Standard willautomatically applyto this Order from the date of publication.
