BIS QCO for Steel and Steel Products (Bright Steel Bars – Specification)

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. This new Order replaces the earlier 2020 QCO and became effective from 5th February 2024, the date it was published in the Official Gazette. Any work already started under the earlier Order remains valid.

This notification applies to Bright Steel Bars, which must now follow the Indian Standard IS 9550:2001. From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:

• Carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

• Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Products made only for export are exempt from this requirement, as long as they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order. Non-compliance will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future revisions or amendments made by BIS to this Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
