BIS Quality Control Order for Stainless steel tubes for the food and beverage industry

Key Provisions of the Order

1. Short Title and Commencement
• This Order is officially titled theMiscellaneous Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023.
• It shall come into force six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette (25thMarch 2024).
• For enterprises classified under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the compliance deadlines are as follows:
• Micro Enterprises: Twelve months from the date of publication.
• Small Enterprises: Nine months from the date of publication.

2. Compulsory Use of Standard Mark
• The goods or articles specified asStainless steel tubes for the food and beverage industrymust conform toIS 6913 : 1973.
• These products are required to bear theStandard Markunder a license issued by theBureau of Indian Standards (BIS), as perScheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• Products manufactured solely for export purposes are exempt from this Order.

3. Certification and Enforcement Authority
• TheBureau of Indian Standardsis designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods or articles. BIS is tasked with ensuring compliance and taking necessary action against violations.

4. Penalty for Contravention
• Any person who fails to comply with the provisions of this Order shall be penalized as per the provisions of theBureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
