This is an important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Rice Bran Fatty Acids (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025.

BIS QCO for Rice Bran Fatty Acids

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued the Rice Bran Fatty Acids (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, which will come into effect from 24th October 2025.

This Order applies to all products containing Rice Bran Fatty Acids, except those made specifically for export. All such products must now comply with the Indian Standard IS 12068:1987 and carry the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark).

To comply, manufacturers and sellers must:

  • Obtain a valid license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

  • Ensure that every product is accompanied by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Key Points:

  • Products made solely for export are exempt if they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.

  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority for this Order.

  • Non-compliance will lead to penalties as per the relevant sections of the BIS Act.

Any future amendments to the Indian Standard IS 12068:1987 will automatically apply to this Order from the date of publication.
