The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued an important notification under the Quality Control (Amendment) Order, 2024, which updates the existing Pyridine (Quality Control) Order, 2020. This amendment ensures that all Pyridine-based goods or articles, except those manufactured solely for export, must now comply with the Indian Standard IS 8058:2018 – Pyridine – Specification.

Key Highlights of the Order

  • All Pyridine products falling under this order must strictly conform to IS 8058:2018.

  • Each product must bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark), issued under a valid license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

  • The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will act as the certifying and enforcement authority, responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance.

  • Export-only products are exempt from this order, provided they meet the specific requirements of the importing country.

Legal & Compliance Notes

  • Any manufacturer, importer, or seller found violating this order will be subject to penalties as per Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

  • All stakeholders involved in the production, import, or sale of Pyridine products are required to obtain BIS certification before the implementation date.

All future revisions or amendments to IS 8058:2018, as notified by BIS, will automatically apply to this Quality Control Order upon publication.
