IS 17397 (Part 1): 2020 / ISO 16365-1: 2014
 
            Important update for all existing BIS licence holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Order, 2021 – Second Amendment Order, 2024.
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued the Second Amendment Order, 2024 to the Polyurethanes (Quality Control) Order, 2021.
 This amendment will officially come into effect from 19th March 2025.
Under this Order, all goods or articles made of Polyurethanes must comply with the Indian Standard IS 17397 (Part 1): 2020 or ISO 16365-1: 2014.
From the date of implementation, all such products must:
Bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Be manufactured, sold, or imported only after obtaining a BIS License.
This Order does not apply to goods or articles made specifically for export purposes.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for all goods or articles of Polyurethanes.
Any person, company, or entity found violating this Order will face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This Amendment aims to ensure that Polyurethane products in India meet uniform quality and safety standards.
