Officially titled the Polypropylene (PP) Materials
for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Order, 2024, the regulation
will take effect on December 24, 2024.
This order applies to goods categorized as Polypropylene (PP) materials for moulding and extrusion but excludes products intended solely for export.
2. Mandatory BIS Certification
A key requirement of this order is that Polypropylene materials for moulding and extrusion must bear the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark). Products are required to comply with Indian Standard IS 10951: 2020 and display the ISI certification.
• Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license to use the ISI Mark, guaranteeing that their products meet quality and safety benchmarks.
• This certification requirement is only applicable to products for the domestic market; goods manufactured for export are exempt.
3. BIS as the Certifying Authority
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) serves as the sole certifying and enforcing authority under this order. BIS is responsible for ensuring that only certified Polypropylene materials for moulding and extrusion meeting Indian standards are available in the market, thereby protecting consumers and supporting industry integrity.
4. Penalties for Non-Compliance
Any individual or entity found violating the Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Order, 2024 will face penalties as prescribed under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
