BIS Amendment Order for Polypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion

TheMinistry of Chemicals and Fertilizers(Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals) has issued thePolypropylene (PP) Materials for Moulding and Extrusion (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, officially extending the implementation date of the original QCO.

New Date of Implementation:

The Quality Control Order will now come into effect from24th October 2025.

• Product Covered: Polypropylene (PP) materials used formoulding and extrusion.
• Mandatory BIS Certification: Products must comply withIndian Standard IS 10951:2020and bear theStandard Markunder a valid BIS licence (Scheme-I, Schedule-II of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018).
• Applicability: Applies to domestically sold PP materials;excludes exports.
• Enforcement Authority: TheBureau of Indian Standards (BIS)will serve as the certifying and enforcing body.
• Penalty for Non-Compliance: Any violations will be penalized as per the provisions of theBIS Act, 2016.

This amendment offers manufacturers additional preparation time for compliance, while maintaining the government's focus on ensuring product quality and safety in the plastics sector.
