BIS QCO for Mild Steel and Medium Tensile Steel Bars IS 432 (Part 1): 1982
The Ministry of Steel has notified the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the provisions of Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and takes effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, while all actions carried out under the earlier Order remain valid.
The scope of this notification covers the Specification for Mild Steel and Medium Tensile Steel Bars and Hard-Drawn Steel Wire for Concrete Reinforcement: Part 1 – Mild Steel and Medium Tensile Steel Bars. Products under this category must strictly conform to Indian Standard IS 432 (Part 1): 1982 from the date of enforcement. Every unit manufactured for the domestic market must carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) issued under a valid BIS license in line with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. In addition, each consignment must be supported by a Test Certificate from a BIS-certified manufacturer.
The Order provides an exemption for goods manufactured solely for export where foreign buyers require compliance with alternative specifications. Oversight and enforcement of this Order lie with the Bureau of Indian Standards, which is the designated certifying authority. Any failure to comply with its provisions will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Furthermore, any amendment or revision to the applicable Indian Standard published by the Bureau of Indian Standards will automatically extend to this Order from the date of such notification.
