Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2024
On March 15, 2024, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), issued the Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2024. This regulation, enacted under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016, supersedes the Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2023, except for actions already undertaken under the previous order.
Key Provisions of the Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2024
- Title and Implementation Timeline
Officially titled the Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters (Quality Control) Order, 2024, the regulation mandates phased implementation based on the size of the enterprise:
- For all enterprises: The order will come into effect from February 28, 2025.
- For small enterprises: Compliance is required starting May 28, 2025.
- For micro enterprises: The deadline for compliance is extended to August 28, 2025.
- Mandatory BIS Certification
The regulation mandates that Marine Plywood must conform to Indian Standard IS 710:2010.
- Manufacturers must obtain a BIS license to affix the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) on their products.
- This requirement does not apply to goods manufactured solely for export purposes.
- Certifying and Enforcement Authority
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been designated as the certifying and enforcement authority. BIS will oversee the certification process and ensure that only compliant products are manufactured, imported, or sold in the domestic market.
- Penalties for Non-Compliance
Any person who contravenes the provisions of this order will face penalties as specified under the BIS Act, 2016.
