Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Jute bags for packing 50 Kg sugar.
The Ministry of Textiles issued the Jute Bags (Quality Control) Order, 2022 on June 6, 2022, in exercise of the powers conferred under Sections 16(1) & (2), 17, and 25(3) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). After consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Central Government has deemed it necessary in the public interest to implement this order, as detailed below:
1. Short Title, Commencement, and Scope
2. Mandatory Use of Standard Mark
All Jute bags for packing 50 Kg sugar must comply with Indian Standard IS 15138:2010 and bear the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
3. Certification and Enforcement Authority
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is designated as the certification and enforcement authority for ensuring compliance with this order.
4. Penalty for Non-Compliance
Any person found contravening the provisions of this order shall be liable for penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
