Dear Viewer,
BIS QCO for Electrical Home Appliances IS 302 (Part 1):2024
On 19th May 2025, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) issued a new notification titled the "Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025."
This new order supersedes the 2024 version, introducing updated safety regulations for electrical appliances used in residential, commercial, and similar settings.
What Does This Mean?
The order covers all electrical appliances designed for household, commercial, or similar applications, with a rated voltage of up to 250V for single-phase AC and 415V for three-phase AC. This ensures that a broad category of everyday and industrial-use appliances falls under strict quality control measures.
All such appliances must now conform to the safety standards specified under IS 302 (Part 1): 2008 and carry the ISI mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The ISI mark certifies that the products have been thoroughly tested and meet the necessary safety standards.
Implementation Timeline
The implementation of this Quality Control Order (QCO) will be phased based on the size of the enterprise:
● Medium and Large Enterprises (Annual turnover above ₹50 crores): Effective from 19th March 2026
● Small Enterprises (Annual turnover between ₹5 crores and ₹50 crores): Effective from 19th June 2026
● Micro Enterprises (Annual turnover below ₹5 crores): Effective from 19th September 2026
