Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Steel and Steel Products (Hot Rolled Steel Strip for Welded Tubes and Pipes) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.
The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This new Order replaces the 2020 QCO and became effective from 5th February 2024, the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Matters already started under the earlier Order will still remain valid.
This notification applies to Hot Rolled Steel Strip for Welded Tubes and Pipes, which must now conform to Indian Standard IS 10748:2004. From the date of implementation, every product under this category must:
Bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Be supplied with a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.
Products manufactured only for export are exempted, as long as they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the authority to certify and enforce compliance with this Order. Non-compliance will lead to penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Any revision or amendment made by BIS to this Indian Standard will also apply to this Order from the date of publication.
