BIS QCO for Hot Rolled Steel Sheet, Plate and Strip for Forming and Flanging Purposes

The Ministry of Steel has notified this Order under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. It replaces the earlier Quality Control Order, 2020, and is effective from 5th February 2024.

As per this Order, Hot Rolled Steel Sheet, Plate and Strip for Forming and Flanging purposes must conform to Indian Standard IS 5986:2017. All such products must carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license, granted according to Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Each consignment must also be supported by a Test Certificate from a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Products manufactured only for export are exempt if they meet the foreign buyer’s specifications.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority. Non-compliance with this Order will invite penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016. Any future amendments made by BIS to IS 5986:2017 will automatically apply to this Order.
