Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Steel and Steel Products (Hot Rolled Bars for production of bright bars and machined parts for engineering applications) under the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

BIS QCO for Hot Rolled Bars for Production of Bright Bars and Machined Parts for Engineering Applications

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the powers given by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This Order replaces the earlier Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and is effective from 5th February 2024, the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

This Order applies to Hot Rolled Bars for production of bright bars and machined parts for engineering applications, which must conform to Indian Standard IS 7283:1992. All products under this category must carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license, issued as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Each consignment must also be supported by a Test Certificate from a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Products manufactured solely for export are exempted from this Order if they meet the specifications required by foreign buyers. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the designated authority for certification and enforcement. Non-compliance will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any revision or amendment made by BIS to the specified Indian Standard will automatically apply to this Order from the date of its publication.
