BIS QCO for Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Sheet and Strip IS 3024:2015

The Ministry of Steel has notified the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the powers granted by Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and takes effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, without affecting actions carried out under the earlier notification.

According to the provisions of this Order, Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Sheet and Strip must conform to the requirements of Indian Standard IS 3024:2015. Products covered under this specification are required to bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark), which can only be used under a valid license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Every consignment must also be accompanied by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

The Order does not apply to steel and steel products manufactured domestically for export if they conform to the specifications demanded by foreign buyers. The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the authority responsible for certification and enforcement of compliance, and any violation of this Order will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Furthermore, any amendments or revisions to the prescribed Indian Standard, once notified by BIS, will automatically become applicable under this Order from the date of their publication.
