The Government of India issues this Quality Control Order to ensure safety, reliability, and standardization of Domestic Clothes Washing Machines across the country.
Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Domestic Clothes Washing Machines.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued the Electrical Appliance for Domestic Clothes Washing Extension Order, 2024 under the Quality Control Order, 2023. This order will come into effect from April 1, 2025.
The provisions of this Electrical Appliance for Domestic Clothes Washing (Quality Control) Order, 2023 apply to micro and small enterprises as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. These enterprises must follow the Indian Standard requirements as mentioned in the order.

The main objective of the Electrical Appliances for Domestic Clothes Washing (Quality Control) Order, 2024 is to ensure that these appliances meet the required quality and safety standards before they are sold in the Indian market. The QCO has been introduced to -
Under this order, all electrical appliances designed for domestic clothes washing must meet the requirements of the Indian Standard 302 (Part 2/Sec 7): 2010. All products must have the BIS Standard Mark as per the marking requirements. Manufacturers must obtain the BIS Licence under Scheme-1 under Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
However, the Order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for the purpose of export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will be responsible for certifying and enforcing the requirements for these products. Anyone who does not follow this Order may face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This BIS QCO will not apply for one year from its commencement to electric appliances for domestic clothes washing with a capacity greater than 11 kg. This exemption applies to
