The Government of India issues this Quality Control Order to ensure safety, reliability, and standardization of Cranked - Link mill chains of welded construction attachments and sprockets across the country.
Important update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to all existing licence holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, distributors, and sellers of Cranked-Link Mill Chains of Welded Construction, Attachments and Sprockets.

Existing license holders and new applicants
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, has issued the draft Chains and Sprockets (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
Under this notification, Cranked-Link Mill Chains of Welded Construction, Attachments and Sprockets covered under IS 13927:2005 / ISO 6972:2002 have been brought under mandatory BIS certification requirements.
As per the notification, manufacturers of Cranked-Link Mill Chains of Welded Construction, Attachments and Sprockets shall ensure that their products conform to the specified Indian Standard and bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS licence granted in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
IS 13927:2005 / ISO 6972:2002 is the Indian Standard for Cranked-Link Mill Chains of Welded Construction, Attachments and Sprockets. The standard specifies the requirements relating to design, dimensions, construction, materials, attachments, sprockets, performance characteristics, testing, inspection, marking, and quality control of welded cranked-link mill chains used in industrial conveying, milling, material handling, and heavy-duty conveying applications.
The standard ensures that welded mill chains and associated sprockets meet prescribed quality, strength, durability, and operational performance requirements for reliable service in demanding industrial environments.
The Quality Control Order will come into force from the following dates:

| General (Other than Micro and Small Enterprises) | 6 months from the date of notification in e-Gazette |
| Small Enterprises | 9 months from the date of notification in e-Gazette |
| Micro Enterprises | 12 months from the date of notification in e-Gazette |
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) shall act as the certification and enforcement authority for Cranked-Link Mill Chains of Welded Construction, Attachments and Sprockets covered under this Quality Control Order.
Any person or manufacturer violating the provisions of this Order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
