BIS QCO for Cold Reduced Carbon Steel Sheets and Strip IS 513 (Part 1): 2016

The Ministry of Steel has notified the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the authority of Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and becomes effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, while matters initiated under the previous Order will remain valid.

The notification specifically covers Cold Reduced Carbon Steel Sheets and Strip: Part 1 – Cold Forming and Drawing Purpose, which must conform to Indian Standard IS 513 (Part 1): 2016 from the date of enforcement. Manufacturers are required to ensure that products carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark), granted under a valid BIS license in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Each batch must also be supported by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

The Order exempts domestically manufactured products that are produced exclusively for export, provided they comply with the specifications required by foreign buyers. The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for this notification, with non-compliance attracting penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.

Any future amendments or revisions to the relevant Indian Standard published by BIS will automatically apply to this Order from the date of such publication.
