Dear Viewer, Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing license holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for the Steel and Steel Products (Specification for plain Hard-drawn Steel Wire for Pre-stressed Concrete; Part 1 Cold - Drawn Stress relieved Wire) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

BIS QCO for Cold Drawn Stress-relieved Wire IS 1785 Part 1:1983

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, superseding the earlier order dated 5th February 2024 . This new order has been notified in exercise of the powers conferred under Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This Order is applicable to Steel and Steel Products, specifically:

        Specification for Plain Hard-drawn Steel Wire for Pre-stressed Concrete; Part 1 – Cold-drawn, Stress-relieved Wire as per Indian Standard IS 1785 (Part 1): 1983.

        Key Provisions:
  • The Order comes into effect from its publication in the Official Gazette, replacing the previous Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, except for matters concluded before its supersession.
  • Export Exemption : Domestically manufactured products meeting specifications required by foreign buyers for export are exempt.
  • Every product covered under this Order must:
    • Conform to IS 1785 (Part 1): 1983 (and its future amendments, as applicable).
    • Bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license, issued as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
    • Be accompanied by a Test Certificate from a BIS-certified manufacturer.
  • Certifying Authority : The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority.
  • Penalty for Non-Compliance : Violation of any provision will attract penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
  • Any amendment or revision to the specified Indian Standards by BIS will automatically apply from the date of their publication.
