However, the ministry issued an amendment on May 3, 2024, titled the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, which extended the implementation date to December 1, 2024.

2. Mandatory BIS Certification

The regulation mandates that Cast aluminium and its alloys – Ingots and castings for general engineering purposes must conform to Indian Standard IS 617:1994.

• Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license to affix the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) on their products.
• This requirement does not apply to goods manufactured solely for export purposes.

3. Certifying and Enforcement Authority

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is designated as the certifying and enforcement authority for this regulation. BIS will ensure that only products meeting the prescribed standards are manufactured, imported, or sold domestically.

4. Scope of Application

This order applies exclusively to Cast aluminium and its alloys – Ingots and castings for general engineering purposes used within India. Products manufactured for export are explicitly excluded from this mandate.
