BIS QCO for Carbon Steel Billets, Blooms, Slabs and Bars for Forgings IS 1875:1992
The Ministry of Steel has notified the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024 under the powers conferred by Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and comes into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette, while preserving actions already undertaken under the previous Order.
As per this notification, Carbon steel billets, blooms, slabs and bars for forgings must comply with the requirements of Indian Standard IS 1875:1992. Products under this category are required to carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark), granted only under a valid license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. Each consignment must also be supported by a Test Certificate from a BIS-licensed manufacturer.
The Order exempts steel and steel products manufactured domestically for export purposes if they conform to the specifications demanded by foreign buyers. The Bureau of Indian Standards has been designated as the certifying and enforcement authority, and any contravention of its provisions is punishable under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016.
Further, any amendments or revisions to the relevant Indian Standard notified by BIS will automatically apply to this Order from the date of their publication.
