BIS QCO for Stationary Storage Type Electric Water Heaters IS 302(Part 2/ Sec 21): 2018

TheMinistry of Commerce and Industryissued theElectrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Quality Control) Order, 2025, onJanuary 16, 2025. This new ordersupersedes the previous2023 order,except for actions already taken under it. It extends the implementation timelines while maintaining compliance requirements.

Implementation Dates:

• Medium and Large Enterprises:March 1, 2025
• Small Enterprises:June 1, 2025
• Micro Enterprises:September 1, 2025

Mandatory BIS Certification:

• Stationary Storage-Type Electric Water Heatersmust conform toIS 302 (Part 2/ Sec 21): 2018and bear theBIS Standard MarkunderScheme-1of theBIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• Exemptions apply to products manufacturedexclusively for export.
• Special Exemption for R&D Imports:Manufacturers can import up to200 units annuallyforresearch and development purposes.These unitscannot be sold commerciallyand must bedisposed of as scrap.Records must be maintained and reported to theCentral Government.

Enforcement & Penalties:

• TheBureau of Indian Standards (BIS)is thecertifying and enforcing authority.
• Anyviolationswill bepunishable under the BIS Act, 2016.
• Thisrevised orderensures aphased implementationfor different enterprise categories while maintainingquality controlandconsumer safety standards.
