Here’s an important update for all existing BIS licence holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers regarding the Acid Oil (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025.

BIS QCO for Acid Oil (IS 12029:1986)

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has announced the Acid Oil (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, which will come into force from 24th October 2025.
This order aims to ensure that all goods or products containing Acid Oil sold in the Indian market meet the prescribed quality and safety standards — except those meant solely for export.

To comply with this Order, Acid Oil products must:

  • Conform to the Indian Standard IS 12029:1986,

  • Bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark), and

  • Be licensed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority responsible for ensuring compliance with this order.

  • Indian Standard Applicable: IS 12029:1986

  • Scope: Applies to all manufacturers, importers, and sellers of Acid Oil in India (except exports).

Penalty: Any violation of this Order will attract penalties as per the provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
