BIS QCO for Electrical Kitchen Appliances - Range Hoods IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 31): 2009 IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 31): 2009

Micro enterprises, as defined under clauses (h) and (m), respectively, of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), shall come into force after 12 months from the date of publication. For small enterprises, the order will come into force after 9 months from the date of publication.

The main purpose of the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023 is to ensure that kitchen electrical appliances meet the required quality and safety standards before they are sold in the Indian market. The QCO has been introduced to -

• Ensure compliance with the applicable Indian Standards
• Improve the quality and safety of kitchen electrical appliances
• Prevent the sale of substandard and unsafe products
• Make the Standard Mark mandatory
• Promote compliance with BIS standards

Under this Order, the specified Electrical Appliances for Kitchen must comply with the applicable Indian Standards 302 (Part 2/Sec 31): 2009. The products must carry the Standard Mark under a valid licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Manufacturers must obtain a BIS Licence under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Any person who violates the provisions of the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023 may face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
