With the increasing popularity of
portable grooming devices, safety and quality have become essential factors for
both consumers and manufacturers. Recognizing this, the Ministry of Commerce
and Industry has enforced a new mandate through the Safety of Household,
Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
This Quality Control Order (QCO) makes
it compulsory for all DC-supplied/ battery-operated shavers, trimmers,
clippers, and similar appliances to comply with the Indian standard IS 302
(Part 1): 2024, which aligns with IEC 60335-1: 2020. These devices must carry
the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards
(BIS), in accordance with Scheme I of Schedule II to the BIS (Conformity
Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The BIS Certification for
battery-operated shavers, trimmers, clippers, and similar appliances is an
official recognition that these products meet the essential safety, durability,
and quality standards as defined in IS 302 (Part 1): 2024. This standard
outlines safety requirements for electrical and mechanical integrity, thermal
protection, resistance to moisture and corrosion, and long-term operational
reliability.
After thorough evaluation, compliant
products are granted the ISI Mark for battery-operated shavers, trimmers,
clippers, and similar appliances. The ISI Certification for battery-operated
shavers, trimmers, clippers, and similar appliances helps consumers identify
reliable and safe products, especially crucial for appliances used in close
contact with skin and in potentially wet environments.
Securing the ISI Mark certification
for battery-operated shavers, trimmers, clippers, and similar appliances offers
several advantages:
● Facilitates participation in institutional and government procurement
To comply with IS 302 (Part 1): 2024
and earn the ISI certification, manufacturers must follow a structured
certification process:
Documents Required for BIS Certification
To apply for ISI
Certification for DC-supplied/ battery-operated shavers, trimmers, clippers,
and similar appliances, manufacturers must provide the following documents:
● Completed application form
● Detailed manufacturing process
information
● Quality control plans and test
reports
● Factory layout and equipment
details
● Product specifications and
technical details
● Business registration proof
● Declaration of conformity to
Indian standards
Additional documentation may be required based on product specifications and environmental regulations.
BIS Documents For Domenstic and Foreign Manufacturer Check
As consumer safety regulations
tighten, the BIS Certification for DC-supplied/ battery-operated shavers,
trimmers, clippers, and similar appliances has become a crucial requirement for
market access and brand reputation. The ISI Mark for battery-operated shavers,
trimmers, clippers, and similar appliances acts as a trusted symbol of quality
and safety.
Manufacturers aiming to launch or
continue selling their grooming products in India must ensure full compliance
with IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 and obtain the necessary BIS certification. Aligning
with these regulatory norms not only avoids legal issues but also strengthens
consumer confidence in the product and brand.
Stay compliant. Stay competitive.
