Dear Reader, This is an important update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for Sodium Tripolyphosphate, under the Quality Control Amendment Order, 2024 issued by the Government of India.
Overview
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued an amendment to the Sodium Tripolyphosphate (Quality Control) Order, 2020, exercising powers conferred under Sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
Under this amendment, all goods or articles of Sodium Tripolyphosphate must conform to the Indian Standard IS 6100:1984, reaffirmed in 2015. Products must bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Products manufactured exclusively for export are exempted from this order, provided they meet the requirements of the foreign buyer.
Enforcement and Compliance
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for Sodium Tripolyphosphate under this Quality Control Order.
Any person or entity found manufacturing, selling, importing, or distributing Sodium Tripolyphosphate that does not comply with the above requirements will face penalties as per the BIS Act, 2016.
