Dear Reader, The Government of India has issued an important update regarding the Methyl Acrylate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024. This amendment applies to all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers involved in the production or sale of Methyl Acrylate.

BIS (Quality Control) Amendment Order for Methyl Acrylate – IS 14707:1999

About the Order

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, exercising its powers under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, has amended the existing Quality Control Order for Methyl Acrylate.

As per this amendment, all goods or articles of Methyl Acrylate must comply with the Indian Standard IS 14707:1999 and bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license issued in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been designated as the certifying and enforcement authority for ensuring conformity and compliance.

Compliance Requirements

All manufacturers, importers, and sellers must ensure that Methyl Acrylate conforms to the above Indian Standard and carries a valid ISI Mark before it is sold, distributed, or imported in India.

Each consignment must also be accompanied by a Test Certificate from a BIS-certified manufacturer to ensure product traceability and compliance.

Products manufactured solely for export are exempted from this requirement, provided they meet the specifications laid down by the foreign buyer.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with this Order will attract penalties as prescribed under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. BIS will strictly monitor and enforce the implementation across all applicable entities.

Note:

Any future amendments or revisions to the relevant Indian Standard (IS 14707:1999) published by BIS will automatically apply to this Quality Control Order from their respective date of publication.
