Dear Reader, Here’s an important regulatory update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers involved in the production or trade of Tin Ingots.

Overview of the BIS QCO for Tin Ingot – IS 26:2024
The Ministry of Mines, under the powers conferred by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, has introduced the Tin Ingot (Quality Control) Order, 2025. This order aims to ensure that all Tin Ingots manufactured, imported, or sold in India meet the Indian Standard IS 26:2024.
From the date of implementation, Tin Ingots must bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) and be certified under a valid BIS license in accordance with Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
This order applies to all Tin Ingots sold or distributed in India, except those manufactured solely for export purposes.
Certification & Enforcement
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will serve as the certifying and enforcement authority under this order. All manufacturers must obtain BIS certification before selling their products in the Indian market.
Non-compliance with the provisions of this Order will invite penal action under the BIS Act, 2016.
