BIS QCO for Hot Rolled Carbon Steel Sheet, Plate and Strip – IS 1079:2017

The Ministry of Steel has issued this Order under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. It replaces the earlier Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020 and is effective from 5th February 2024, the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

As per this Order:

• All Hot Rolled Carbon Steel Sheet, Plate and Strip must comply with Indian Standard IS 1079:2017.
• Products must carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license granted as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• Each consignment must be accompanied by a Test Certificate issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.
• Products made only for export are exempted if they follow the specifications required by foreign buyers.

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority. Non-compliance may lead to penalties under Section 29 of the BIS Act, 2016. Any future amendments or revisions to IS 1079:2017 will automatically apply from the date of their publication.
