This is an important update for all existing license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and sellers of polycarbonate products regarding the Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025.
BIS QCO for Polycarbonate Products
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued the Polycarbonate (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016. This new amendment will come into force on 12th September, 2026.
This order applies to all polycarbonate goods and articles in India and mandates the following:
Products must comply with Indian Standard IS 14434:1998.
Products must carry the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a valid BIS license as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II of BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Products made exclusively for export are exempted from this requirement.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the certifying and enforcing authority for this order.
Important Notes:
Non-compliance with this order will attract penalties under the BIS Act, 2016.
Any future revision or amendment of the Indian Standard by BIS will automatically apply to this order.
