K Acid (Quality Control) Order Amendment
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals) had earlier notified the K Acid (Quality Control) Order, 2024 on 14th November 2024, mandating BIS certification for K Acid as per IS 11557:1986, with an initial implementation date of May 14, 2025.
However, through the newly issued K Acid (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, dated May 14, 2025, the Ministry has extended the implementation date to May 13, 2026.
Key Highlights:
● Applicability: The Order applies to K Acid, excluding goods meant for export.
● Standard: Compliance with IS 11557:1986 is mandatory.
● Certification: Products must bear the Standard Mark under a BIS licence as per Scheme-I of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018.
● Authority: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will act as the certifying and enforcement authority.
This extension provides manufacturers and importers with additional time to align their products with Indian quality standards.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Non-compliance with the K Acid (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2025, will result in penalties as detailed in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. These enforcement measures are designed to ensure adherence to the required safety and quality standards, deterring any attempts to bypass regulatory obligations.
This regulation is a critical step towards safeguarding public health and ensuring consistent quality for K Acid used in various applications. By implementing uniform standards, the Order benefits end-users while promoting high production standards within the Indian chemical manufacturing industry.
