Extension of Concurrent Running Period for IS 302-1: 2008 and IS 302 (Part 1): 2024

In an important update for the electrical appliances industry, the Central Marks Department-III has issued a notification on 29 November 2024, for safety of household and similar electrical appliances part 1 general requirements extending the concurrent running period for two safety standards: IS 302-1: 2008 and the revised IS 302 (Part 1): 2024/IEC 60335-1: 2020.

This extension provides manufacturers and stakeholders additional time to transition to the updated safety standards for household and similar electrical appliances.

Key Details

  1. Standards Involved:

 IS 302-1: 2008: Sixth Revision of the standard for safety requirements of household electrical appliances.

 IS 302 (Part 1): 2024/IEC 60335-1: 2020: Seventh Revision, aligning Indian standards with international benchmarks for enhanced safety and reliability.

  1. New Deadline:
     The concurrent running of these standards has been extended until 23 February 2026. This means both standards will be valid during this period, allowing manufacturers time to adapt to the revised requirements.

  2. Implementation Responsibility:
     Branch offices are tasked with informing licensees and applicants in their jurisdictions about the extension and ensuring the updated standards are fully implemented by the new deadline.
